Helmut works for a car components manufacturer, and in his free time he collects, restores and then drives old cars. He came to Brasov for a short holiday, driving all the way from Germany to Romania. There is no better way to put it than saying he is a motorhead, eager to see what the electric revolution will bring to the table. But not with his mountain biking. Here he likes things done the old way, earning the thrills of the descents with the hard work of pedaling up. And…
Udo brought his friends for a ski touring trip in the Romanian mountains back in 2018, and saw the potential for a mountain biking adventure. Fast forward to August 2022: Udo and his five Bavarian friends came to Romania for a five-mountains, six-days mountain biking tour: our one and only Transylvanian Alps program. The photo gallery below, as extensive as it is, will only tell a small part of an amazing experience. We explored five mountains in Central Romania (Ciucaș, Grohotișului, Baiului, Bucegi, Piatra Craiului). We've biked through forests, through…
Like most of our guests, Willi and Francesco started planning their mtb trip to Romania with many months in advance, in October 2021. They were hoping, like we all did, that things will come back to some sort of normality after a couple of years totally messed up by the COVID pandemic. Then the war in Ukraine started. Planning for weeks or months ahead became, again, pointless. Still, Willi and Francesco were decided to come to Romania for a mountain biking trip, even if that meant making a last minute…
It was scheduled to happen in June 2020, but a tiny virus had other plans for the entire planet Earth. More than one year later our Belgian guests finally arrived in Romania for the week-long Transylvanian Alps tour, adding the South East Carpathian Mountains to their impressive list of mountain biking destinations. The menu was, as always, complex: long and demanding climbs, push and carry-bike sessions, epic descents on "Bonanza trails". Zero bears encounters, but a few shepherd dogs (honestly a bigger threat for the unaccustomed traveller). Lots of loughs,…
We started to ride with Tom in September 2020. He brought then with him a newly bought capable XC hardtail and a basic set of skills, the kind most of us get while simply riding a bike while playing as kids, and later on commuting in the urban jungle. But, most importantly, the will to push the limits on the uphills, and plenty of interest in tackling trickier descents. A few walk-the-trails sessions in Păltiniș, but also Piatra Craiului, Bucegi and Poiana Brașov made him realise heavier tools are required…
One of the great things about mountain biking is that, with every new ride, you become a different mountain biker. With each new trail you've ridden, with each day spent on bike, you get better at it. You trust more your balance, you hone your skills a little bit more. You look at the same trail a little bit different. You see new lines, new options on sections of trails you thought were't holding no more secrets. Sometimes you do it on your own, sometimes you do it with your…
Here we are in 2019, our third year of organising open tours, and the most popular so far is the Transylvanian Alps program. The idea of traversing on mountain bike five different mountains in the Romanian Carpathian Mountains near Brasov, Central Romania, seems to appeal to a good number of mountain bikers. This time around the participants were all German. Among them a family of three: Mum, Dad, and their 14 years old daughter. Initially, only the parents were to come, but after a few email exchanges we decided that…
The six days Transylvanian Alps mountain biking program is probably the closest to our hearts. It covers a wide territory, across six mountains from Ciucaș to Piatra Craiului. The climbs are long and demanding, but not impossible. Some pushbike here and there, but nothing outrageous. The descents are on natural trails, with long, flowy sections mixed with more technical terrain, but you don't need to be an acrobat to stay on the bike. The variety of landscape is quite extraordinary. It is a special tour for special people: the kind…
We've been riding our Bucegi Circuit for more than five years now, but we keep getting enthusiastic about each juicy single trail descent we are about to head into. And boy, they are many! Each time we make a promise: "Next time I'll stop and take some proper photos and videos of this descent, but for now I will just enjoy it!" We keep on making the same promise, and who knows, maybe, sometime... Till then you'll rather see photos from uphills, sandwich brakes in scenic places, etc. [ngg src="galleries"…
"I don't know how you do it, but your guests are always nice, interesting people!". Maria runs a rural pension close to Bucegi Mountains, her place is listed on airbnb as one of the most popular choices in the area. So she gets to meet special people from all around the world. Still, the people coming with us, over the Bucegi Mountains, riding their bikes and carrying big smiles on their faces, are of a different sort. We stay at Maria's for the last two days of our week-long mtb…
