Tailor-made adventures on Carpathian Peaks

Carpathian Peaks is the latest addition to the list of programs here on mtbtours.ro and it is proving quite popular. All my tours are perfectly defined by the UP. DOWN. REPEAT headline, but it is the Carpathian Peaks where the UP part is the most consistent, with many a steep, intensive climbs, including bike pushing and bike carrying. I had expected for this tour to attract more hard-core mountain bikers, like this gang from Scotland (see reports here and here). To my surprise, the concept of working your way up…

Scottish on Carpathian Peaks, season two

"You don't get many returning customers, do you?!", Muzza asked me while hike-a-biking up a steep, rocky couloir on the way to Ciucaș peak, during our 2023 tour, It was, obviously, more of a rhetorical question, in more ways than one. My regular guests won't return, even if they thoroughly enjoyed their time spent in Romania. A good part of their motivation into coming to places like our Carpathian Mountains is to discover new places. The next adventure, by definition, should be somewhere new. But Muzza, and Iain, and Robert,…

Carpathian Peaks with a Scottish accent

I must have known Iain, Bob, Muzza and Dene in a previous life. There is no other explanation why the Carpathian Peaks tour matched so nicely their mountain biking riding profiles. There is no "push-bike" in these guys' vocabulary. And not because they are Scottish :-). No, it's because if you can push the bike, it means you could also ride it. Pedal uphill. Then if you cannot, it means you have to carry it. But wait. They don't call it "carry bike" either. They say "hike-a-bike". Maybe because no…

Living, working and mountain biking in Brașov

Living and working abroad is something more and more usual for the EU citizens. When you can combine the advantages of a higher paycheck with smaller costs of living, and with a relatively high standard of living, then you can say you hit the jackpot. If you are into mountain biking, and more general into mountain sports, the city of Brașov, in central Romania, is one of these magical places. Jan works for a software company. His work routine requires regular visits to a local subcontractor. He is also a…

Three days mtb tour in Transylvania

Helmut works for a car components manufacturer, and in his free time he collects, restores and then drives old cars. He came to Brasov for a short holiday, driving all the way from Germany to Romania. There is no better way to put it than saying he is a motorhead, eager to see what the electric revolution will bring to the table. But not with his mountain biking. Here he likes things done the old way, earning the thrills of the descents with the hard work of pedaling up. And…

Born on Sunday

Like most of our guests, Willi and Francesco started planning their mtb trip to Romania with many months in advance, in October 2021. They were hoping, like we all did, that things will come back to some sort of normality after a couple of years totally messed up by the COVID pandemic. Then the war in Ukraine started. Planning for weeks or months ahead became, again, pointless. Still, Willi and Francesco were decided to come to Romania for a mountain biking trip, even if that meant making a last minute…

Our mtb tours in Romania

We organise guided mountain biking tours in South-East Transylvania, Central Romania, in the Carpathian Mountains surrounding the medieval city of Brașov (Bucegi, Piatra Craiului, Ciucaș, Postăvaru, Piatra Mare, Baiului, Grohotișului, Neamțului, etc). We have several programs you can choose from: one week, medium, advanced or expert level, all- inclusive or guiding-only tours. We have a few fixed dates open tours that you can join, but we also run them on demand, for specific group sizes and dates. There's a comprehensive form on the contact page. Use it if you want…

Carpat MTB Enduro open tour 2019

Our second instalment of the Carpat MTB Enduro program happened in July 2019, featuring a couple from Sweden enjoying a longer family trip to Romania, and three German friends on their routine mountain biking trip abroad. A great week as always, in spite of some rather tricky weather, unusually wet for mid summer, and a few technical and logistical problems with one of the bikes. Nothing that can't be solved with the appropriate clothing and a good set of toolbox - plus equipment to spare. We biked up on Bucegi…

“Les Français font du VTT en Roumanie”

We started the 2018 mountain biking season with a high-intensity four-days tour in Postavaru, Piatra Craiului and Bucegi mountains with a group of seven French "VTT-istes" (a.k.a. "mountainbikers") from a Lyon club. We get plenty of mountain biking visitors in Romania generally from the Northern half of Europe, (Germany, UK, Austria, Sweden, Nederlands, etc) and less often from places like Italy, Spain, or France. Things are gradually changing, with more and more people discovering Romania as a worthy holiday destination. We hope that the following photo gallery, coupled with Monique's…
