If you are a mountain biker, it’s hard to scroll through the social media feeds nowadays without getting demotivated, or even depressed. It’s either sends or fails. Incredible jumps, gaps, never-ending manuals, endos on steep, rocky terrain, etc or face plants, dead sailors, smashed frames, broken bones, cracked helmets. It’s either a Guinnes record, or a visit to the hospital. Or both.
To be honest, it’s not just about mountain biking. Bouncing around from one extreme to another seems to happen in pretty much every walk of life, and it is more and more difficult to find the middle ground.
For the Rampage-style feats aficionados, mtbtours.ro programs are rather mundane. We prefer climb the hard way, slowly, without assisted uplifts. We go down on technical terrain, but rather carefully. There’s fun to be had, flow to be enjoyed, without reaching supersonic speeds. We’ll do some jumps, but nothing really scary. We’ll take our chances on tight corners, maybe even trying our luck with an endo turn, and lough at the outcome :-). And we’ll do all that keeping in mind that getting down there in one piece, biker and bike, is the most important thing.
There is a small number or amazing mountain bikers able to do magic with their bikes. And there’s the rest of us. Let’s enjoy what we have, what we are able to do, as that is no little thing. Let’s continue getting out of our confort zone, even if we do it in baby steps.
Let’s ride our bikes at our own pace, and in our own style, and enjoy it.
