There's a more than one hundred years old tradition of hiking in Postavaru Mountains, on the outskirts of Brasov city. The mountain bikers are a recent addition but they are growing in numbers every year. The profile of the slopes is quite inviting for downhillers, but hard tailers are also popular on the rocky tracks: Postavaru Mountain can accommodate easily different types of bikers and different types of competitions, Mountain running, duathlon, downhill/freeride, cross-country marathon contests are organised every year and their popularity is constantly growing. As is the case…
It was frustrating to stand aside and watch (even if through the viewfinder of my photo camera) the Brasov XCM 2013 competitors pedaling, descending, pushing, sliding, falling, rising, climbing, swearing, laughing, mountain biking on the trails of Postavaru. It all made sense later on, while watching the video rushes filmed during the day with my 5Dmk2 and with the host of GoPro cameras offered by www.xtremvideo.ro. The aim of these video recordings is a film of the whole Triada MTB event, including two other competitions apart from Brasov XCM. We…
[singlepic id=885 w=500 h=333 float=right]We started last year's mtb season on the trails of Postavaru mountain, testing options for the XCM Brasov competition. The fresh green grass and the mild weather inspired Andrei and Mihai to play around, as you can see in the photo gallery below. A video edit done on the same occasion can be viewed here. The scenario seems similar this year, there are only two months left till XCM Brasov 2013 competition and the nice weather is finally calling us up on the trails. We'll be…
Ten minutes video with footage filmed this spring on the trails of Postăvaru, home of the Braşov XCM marathon.
[singlepic id=582 w=500 h=333 float=left]Today I was a photo-witness at the Cetatea Braşovului Duathlon. All the photos where taken on a descent section, just after Poiana Stechil - therefore only the participants to the pro race are featuring. The mountainbiking part of the duathlon is really tough, some say it is the most difficult racing trail in Romania. It is quite short (12,5 km) but it is steep (more than 700m total altitude gain). The weather was very dry in the last weeks in Braşov, so the trails where hard…
[singlepic id=509 w=333 h=500 float=left]“We’ve got a car, you don’t need to keep cycling all the way to the finish line”. This is what one of the organizers told me when I reached Bazna, the final checkpoint of the Medias Medieval Marathon 2011, while he was preparing to remove the competition chip from by bike. I was 25 minutes over the allowed time and therefore disqualified. He was probably thinking this was the only comfort he could give me, as he was preparing to take me out of the competition.…
[singlepic id=498 w=500 h=333 float=right]Mihai Constantenec takes his old battered bike to all the Romanian mountain bike competitions out there. The perennial technical troubles – a record number of flat tires, the used up chain or tired rear derailleur - never seem to slow him down. He’s so fast, that you can’t even take a proper photo of him. His quest for adrenaline and speed took him all the way to Bucharest (from the town of Medias, in Sibiu county), to participate at the First Escape. And here he is…
Someone rightly suggested that the name of the Medias Medieval Marathon should be changed to Mudieval. Except for snow, there was something for everyone: mud, sun, heavy winds, scary clouds, torrential rain and hailstone... Our friend and fellow mountain biker, Mihai Constantenec, tells his story of that day of extremes: I finally manage to squeeze in somewhere in the back of the start line. Oh well... it wouldn’t be the first time. And here we go, I start overtaking many of the guys, but when I reach the mud, there…
A week before, after a memorable ride, Christi asked me if I was ready. How can one be ready for this: [caption id="attachment_366" align="alignleft" width="695" caption="Iron Bike, Oradea 2010: 267 km, 4500 metri diferenţă de nivel, timp limită de 22 de ore."][/caption] And so, the Friday next, we found ourselves in Sanmartin, near Oradea, having arrived just 10 min before the scheduled technical meeting. I still could not believe I had signed up for this. I had been really doubtful and only the perseverance of Egi made me put my…
