Ski touring is the winter version of mountain biking, they say. And surely there are a lot of similarities. Like you need to work your way up the hard way (those of you who are already objecting with the e-bike argument, please read our manifesto on the matter), for a descent that is significantly shorter. It actually is more difficult in ski touring, because the fun factor of any descent is very dependent on the quality of the snow (and in the more inclined and exposed areas a good snow…
Some ski touring up in Bucegi in spring 2012, an area where we've been cycling quite a lot this summer, where we plan to ski some more this winter and where, of course, we'll be pedalling once more next summer. It was far from ideal skiing conditions back on March 2012, with some really wet snow, but when the going gets tough, the tough get going! [ngg src="galleries" ids="28" display="basic_thumbnail"]
A sunny and frozen ski touring day in Postăvaru Mountain. The ideal opportunity to study future mountain biking trails, and also to test the recently awarded Go Pro HD Hero 2 video camera (more here). The results were equally encouraging. On one hand a very promising route from Postăvaru down to Poiana Braşov seems to emerge. A juicy single trail for the cross-country and all mountain aficionados. Can't wait for the snow to melt. (But not so fast, though, we have plenty of skiing to make up for the last…
[singlepic id=655 w=500 h=333 float=right] Finally a sunny week-end in Braşov, after three weeks of snowing like in the good old days. We celebrated it up in the Bucegi mountains, for some cross-country and free ride skiing. A happy bunch of nine skiers, four from Braşov and other five coming from Bucharest, all eager to fully enjoy the fresh powder and the gorgeous weather. We started our tour in Sinaia, surprised to see the skiing area at Cota 2000 almost deserted. Usually, on a Saturday morning, you might wait an…
Snow was scarce this winter. Some did fall, but not enough. We only got a few days of good skiing in Poiana Brasov in March. That was it. Then, spring came, and with it the snow. Lots of it, but not the lasting kind... Before it melted all away, we got to enjoy a nice ski touring weekend in Cindrel, which is a massive situated above the winter resort of Paltinis, in Sibiu County. Many people say that ski touring is the winter equivalent of mountain biking - some believe…
