My German language skills are quite limited, especially if the Austrian accent is also involved. However, sometimes translation is simply not needed. “Brutal” and “total” were the most used words by our four guests during our seven-day mountain biking tour across the Carpathians. Day one – warm up in Ciucaș Mountains [singlepic id=1468 w= h= float=none]Due to a very late (early?) flight, the first day was more of a warm-up mission. We started in Cheia and went on some nice trails around Cabana Muntele Roșu. We were lucky enough to…
Eva and Christian are travelling to Transylvania quite often, tracing back family roots in and around Sibiu (Hermannstadt) area. This summer they wanted to try something different so they opted for a guided mtb tour, exploring trails in the Fortified Churches area, near Viscri, and then on the foothills of Piatra Craiului and Bucegi mountains. It was a thrilling experience: the already familiar Transylvanian landscape gained new dimensions while biking every day around 30 km of forest, pasture and alpine single tracks, covering vasts areas of unspoiled teritory. You know you've been blessed when... you live in a place like Brașov, a mountain biking paradise with great scenery, great mountains and plenty of trails, you have the chance to go biking with a group of Swedes which are both great company and a source of inspiration, you get ideal photo opportunities with bikers showing (off) their amazing skills, you are called to organize a seven-days mtb trip for these guys for the third year in a row. For all these reasons (and more) we do feel blessed. The…
Pat, Ryan and Martin came to Romania late May for a medium mtb-tour in the Bran County. The rainiest spring we had in many years didn't provide the best of premisses - there was water and there was mud everywhere. The kind of weather that isn't really inviting you to get out, on your bike and ride. But once you've got over that hateful first minute, you realize that some wet dirt cannot and should not stop you from having a great time. With plenty experience of riding in the…
Here is a four minutes video cut from the footage recorded during our 2012 mountain biking trips. We rode across Ciucaş, Neamţului, Baiului, Bucegi, Piatra Craiului, Postăvaru, together with wonderful people from around the world. This is to Sigge, Mikke, Arnon, George, Răzvan, Karin, Yvonne, Angelique, Henk and all the others who shared with us the pleasure and the pain of mountain biking in the Carpathians. Enjoy!
The third day of all-mountain riding with Sigge and Micke was spent on the trails and tracks of Piatra Craiului National Park. The majestic Zărneşti Gorges, some mild and scenic pastures at Vlăduşca and La Table. The highlight of the day, the downhill from Cabana Curmătura to Fântâna lui Botorog. That's a trail in desperate need for more extensive filming, one good prospect for the coming year. Photos with the to swedes riding in Romania here. The Strunga Pass descent video here, with the same bikers.
Three days of all-mountain and freeride biking in Bucegi and Piatra Craiului with Sigge and Mike - a feast for the soul, for the eye, and also for the lens. I didn't mind carrying an extra of almost two kilos of photo and video equipment, as my two riding buddies had plenty to show (off). It was for the first time that my reliable old hard tail bike really felt kind of obsolete, seeing Sigge and Mike flying down the trails: as they liked to say, "You go first and…
We rode this weekend the trails of Postăvaru and Piatra Craiului, and it was great fun. We were also able to dodge some of the terrible heat of this Mediterranean summer by staying under the trees for as much as possible. And as an extra-bonus, an unexpected but quite thrilling photo shooting with a Swedish model: Sigge was kind enough to show us some of his skills. Was it all-mountain? Freeride? Cross-country? Downhill? A little bit of everything. Or, simply, mountainbiking. Thanks, Arnon and Sigge, for a nice weekend. Keep…
[singlepic id=528 w=500 h=333 float=left]“Must have been tough on that bike, wouldn’t it have been better had I given you a scythe to help me?” The man was sharpening his scythe in a field on the outskirts of the Magura village, near the cart road that goes up from Moeciu de Jos. The afternoon was hot, the man was surrounded by long lanes of freshly cut luscious grass, while I was already leaving behind 90 km of bike trails and a 3.000 m elevation. The time was right for some…
