We rode this weekend the trails of Postăvaru and Piatra Craiului, and it was great fun. We were also able to dodge some of the terrible heat of this Mediterranean summer by staying under the trees for as much as possible. And as an extra-bonus, an unexpected but quite thrilling photo shooting with a Swedish model: Sigge was kind enough to show us some of his skills. Was it all-mountain? Freeride? Cross-country? Downhill? A little bit of everything. Or, simply, mountainbiking. Thanks, Arnon and Sigge, for a nice weekend. Keep…
I recently spoke with a German mountain biker who told me that it is very difficult for them to find empty trails on their hills, forests, mountains. All the tracks are filled with trekkers, hikers, and, of course, mountain bikers. He also complained about their single trails being "over prepared", meaning that every single little obstacle on the track was removed long ago, in order to provide a smoother, easier, nicer ride (not talking about downhill trails, of course, or specialized bike trails in thematic parks). That's not the case…
Ten minutes video with footage filmed this spring on the trails of Postăvaru, home of the Braşov XCM marathon.
If the Romanian mountains are filled with sheep, rural Greece is the land of the goats. Both are generously equipped with equally noisy dogs, always angered by cyclists roaming around their premises. Their barking needs no Romanian (nor Greek) translation. However, this shouldn't prevent people from cycling into the wilderness, enjoying the nature, the sun, the sea, the air, the view. We keep doing that in Greece, one week every late summer, for quite a while now. Be it in Thassos, in Kithera, in Lefkada or in Sithonia, the effort…
It was a good year for mountain biking in Romania, we enjoyed every minute of it. We also filmed some of them - grab your headphones, pump up the volume and hit play. It's not going to feel like you've been there (even if... you where), but it will be close. This film won the Extrem! competition at the "Filmul de Piatra 3.0" festival, in January 2012. We hope to put the awarded GoPro HD Hero 2 camera to some good use! For 2012 we are preparing three mountain biking…
Mtbtours.ro comes now with a small design face-lift and we are launching it with this new video of the single trails in Postavaru Mountain, on the outskirts of Brasov. We went mountain biking and filming on a nice and warm Sunday of November, the last one before the cold weather settled in. Brasov is the ideal place to live in if you are a mountain biker. It's a matter of minutes to get from city center to the trails of Postavaru Mountain or to the bus station for Poiana Brasov…
One of the best mountain biking tours we did this year was in the Ciucaş Mountains. We tried cycling there about ten years ago, at the beginning of our mountain biking experiences, but we ended up disappointed: too much push/carry bike for a little bit of pedaling. More recently, a friend of ours tried his luck up in the Ciucaş mountains and he was equally unhappy with the results. But still... with Google Earth in one hand and and a printed map in the other I drew a trail around…
Bucegi Plateau, Omu Peak, Drumul Granicerilor, Padina, Strunga Ridge and then a descent to Simon. For a long time I have been planning this trip and I had lost all hope of doing it this year, since we had a mostly cold and rainy summer. But the weather was on our side this time, and a good thing that was too. The first ever story we published more then a year ago on this blog was also about a ride through Bucegi. That time we started the ride in Sinaia,…
[singlepic id=582 w=500 h=333 float=left]Today I was a photo-witness at the Cetatea Braşovului Duathlon. All the photos where taken on a descent section, just after Poiana Stechil - therefore only the participants to the pro race are featuring. The mountainbiking part of the duathlon is really tough, some say it is the most difficult racing trail in Romania. It is quite short (12,5 km) but it is steep (more than 700m total altitude gain). The weather was very dry in the last weeks in Braşov, so the trails where hard…
[singlepic id=528 w=500 h=333 float=left]“Must have been tough on that bike, wouldn’t it have been better had I given you a scythe to help me?” The man was sharpening his scythe in a field on the outskirts of the Magura village, near the cart road that goes up from Moeciu de Jos. The afternoon was hot, the man was surrounded by long lanes of freshly cut luscious grass, while I was already leaving behind 90 km of bike trails and a 3.000 m elevation. The time was right for some…
