A sunny and frozen ski touring day in Postăvaru Mountain. The ideal opportunity to study future mountain biking trails, and also to test the recently awarded Go Pro HD Hero 2 video camera (more here). The results were equally encouraging. On one hand a very promising route from Postăvaru down to Poiana Braşov seems to emerge. A juicy single trail for the cross-country and all mountain aficionados. Can't wait for the snow to melt. (But not so fast, though, we have plenty of skiing to make up for the last…
So what do we do when the snow keeps us from cycling up to Poiana Braşov? We go on skis - and then descend through the deep forest. I recently saw ”All.I.Can” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1zc2Mwz_bg). Amazing footage: helicopter shots, super slow-motions, time-lapse sequences, incredible scenery and outstanding skiing. It's like watching a 90 minutes video commercial. Still, at one point you get a little fed up, like eating too much of the same brilliant cake. You need to break the rhythm, you want to find out a little bit more about those…
Mtbtours.ro comes now with a small design face-lift and we are launching it with this new video of the single trails in Postavaru Mountain, on the outskirts of Brasov. We went mountain biking and filming on a nice and warm Sunday of November, the last one before the cold weather settled in. Brasov is the ideal place to live in if you are a mountain biker. It's a matter of minutes to get from city center to the trails of Postavaru Mountain or to the bus station for Poiana Brasov…
[ngg_images image_ids="582 w=500 h=333 float=left]Today I was a photo-witness at the Cetatea Braşovului Duathlon. All the photos where taken on a descent section, just after Poiana Stechil - therefore only the participants to the pro race are featuring. The mountainbiking part of the duathlon is really tough, some say it is the most difficult racing trail in Romania. It is quite short (12,5 km) but it is steep (more than 700m total altitude gain). The weather was very dry in the last weeks in Braşov, so the trails where hard…
We organize guided mtb tours in Transylvania, Romania. We have five programs you can choose from: one week, medium to expert level, all inclusive kind of tours. We are also running guiding only programs, if you are keen on solving accommodation and logistics on your own. We have a few fixed dates tours that you can join but we also run them on demand, for specific groups and dates. There's a comprehensive form on the contact page, use it if you want us to help you plan a custom mountain…
Since I had a free day during the week, I decided to use it by going on a recky I had been planning for a long time, but hoped I would not have to do by myself – you never know when something on the bike breaks, and you are in the middle of nowhere with no one to help you. And so, I convinced Mihai of Medias to join me in this ride from Brasov to Busteni (the initial track was to Sinaia, but we were cut short by…
At the end of a ski touring trip organized by Iulian Cozma in Bucegi in 2009, Mario promised he would soon return to the Carpathians. He kept his word - together with four other friends from Switzerland and Italy, they packed their mountain bikes, hopped on a plane and came to Romania for five days of mountain biking. Iulian arranged their entire stay in Romania (accommodation, transport etc.) and I was left with the fun part of the whole thing – planning the rides and doing the guiding. We got…
The amazing success of the ride in Baiului had to be repeated, and quickly too. And there was an unexpected opportunity. Mihai was getting ready for Iron Bike Oradea and needed many kilometers to train. Paul had brought his bike all the way from Cluj and was looking for a ride closer to home. Christi however lost the fight in Baiului and came out with a busted knee – he therefore excused himself, although we suspect laziness was his first motive. I bet that especially after looking at the photos,…
